Today is OFFICIALLY my last day in Canada for 2019!! 🎉 . ✈️ I’m headed off to Europe for six(ish) weeks with my partner in crime and have decided to sign off for the year! . 📸 You may see me pop into my feed from time-to-time to share any exciting foods I find over there but other than that, I’ve decided to stop all social media until the new year! . ✨ But don’t worry.. 🍏 B R E A K F A S T on-the-go ——— As a Holistic Nutritionist, I never recommend eating rushed, distracted or “on-the-go” - our poor bodies just can’t digest that way! 🙅🏼‍♀️ ——— As a HUMAN I recognize that sometimes, this just isn’t possible! And sometimes, we need something quick and easy to grab-and-go. (something is usually better than nothing, right? 🙃) ——— For mornings like this, I like to have a few of these chia puddings on hand. 🤤 ——— They’re quick and easy to make, loaded with omega oils, super nutrient dense, stays in your system + keeps you full longer than a piece of bread will, contains a fermented element AND can store in the fridge for at least a week! Here’s what I usually like to add: ——— • 1/2 cup homemade apple sauce • 1 tbsp chia seeds 👉🏼 (mix together) • 1/2 cup kefir • 1 tbsp chia seeds • 1 tsp vanilla 👉🏼 (mix together) Layer + store in small mason jars and have them prepped and ready for the week ahead! ——— If I really have my sh*t together, I’ll top with: ✔️ diced spiced apple or banana ✔️ homemade granola ✔️ pumpkin/sunflower seeds ✔️ hemp hearts ✔️ Brazil nuts/hazelnuts/almonds ——— For those keeping it low-sugar, Candida + Keto friendly, you can easily omit the apple sauce part and just double up on the kefir mixture! ——— Play around with it and let me know how you enjoy it! 🙏🏼 ——— *SIDE NOTE* these are great to grab-and-go but the Holistic Nutritionist side of me would like to recommend not eating this while driving and allowing yourself the whole whopping 5min it will take you to eat this. Back from a weekend trip to Gabriola Island and lucky me, I found more Turkey Tails to top up my pantry with! 😍 . 🦃 Turkey Tails are one of my favourite mushrooms to hunt for! They’re gorgeous, easy to harvest and when you get to know the different varieties, it gets really easy to identify between the true and false Turkey tails. . 🍄 Aside from them being fun to hunt for (☺️), they’re one of the most researched mushrooms in the world and were originally used in Traditional Chinese Medicine practices for its medicinal properties such as immune + digestive imbalances. . 🎙 If you noticed on my feed, I shared a podcast I was listening to with @paulstamets on the @joerogan show. He talks a little bit about how turkey tail mycelium is a prebiotic (essentially the “fertilizer” for probiotics) for the microbiome that feed bifidobacteria and lactobacillus which essentially means the mycelium of Turkey tails feed nutrients to the beneficial bacteria in our bodies (neat, hey?!). . POTENTIAL HEALTH BENEFITS ✅ Anti-cancer/anti-tumor properties ✅ Helps improve gut bacteria balance ✅ Contains immune-boosting properties ✅ Packed with antioxidants, adaptogens and has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties ✅ May improve athletic performance and reduce fatigue ✅ Has been known to enhance efficacy of both chemotherapy + radiation in people with certain cancers . 🌎 Luckily, these guys can be found almost anywhere in the world! But unless you’re a confident mushroom hunter, I suggest keeping it safe and buying it from local retailers such as @harmonic_arts @hostdefense @puricawellness or @om.foods (they have a great mushroom blend that contain turkey tails) . 🍄 If you’re able to get the whole, unprocessed Turkey tail, trying making my favourite Medicinal Mushroom Chai Tea (link in bio 👆🏼). It’s a blend of Reishi, Chaga, + Turkey Tail mushrooms with True Cinnamon + local Ginger boiled all together - the perfect way to support your immune system this season! ♥️

🥓 BACON + BALSAMIC ROASTED VEGGIES 🥦 . 😋 This one-pan recipe makes A LOT so it can be used as a main dish or as a side dish. I don't cook with bacon very often but I'm starting to enjoy incorporating it into a few new dishes! Bacon has a lot of nutritional benefits when cooked + sourced correctly. . 🥓 BACON BENEFITS Good quality bacon, cooked correctly, can be very high in B vitamins (especially B1-Thiamin, vitamin B12-Cobalamin), Zinc, Selenium, EFA's (especially Omega-3), Iron, Magnesium, and Potassium. . 🚜 SOURCE LOCALLY Clean, local and ethical: look for for animals that have been raised in a grass-fed, free range, pasture-based environment. My favourite local companies to buy from are @berrymanfarms and Carnivore Meats. . If you cant buy local, make sure the products you buy are: ✅ Grass-fed ✅ Free of added antibiotics ✅ Free of growth hormones or steroids ✅ Free of preservatives and flavours ✅ GMO free ✅ Farm raised ✅ Hand cut, center cuts (ideally) ✅ Uncured or free of added nitrates . 🥩 I served this recipe with a smoked sea salt + rosemary steak, topped with caramelized onions + mushrooms. . 👩🏼‍🍳 With the leftovers, I re-heated them and added them to a leftover Thai Curry sauce I had made earlier this week.
