Sophrosyne Wellness was created to inspire, encourage and educate my friends, family and peers around me. Recently graduating as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, I am passionate about:

As I stumble my way through this education.. world.. life.. I am narrowing in more and more on the things that light my passions and inspirations. This is where “Sophrosyne” was born for me. As I was in school, I came across the term Sophrosyne and instantly knew this would be the mission statement and foundation of my business.

What is Sophrosyne? Why use this strange and unusual word?

Yes, I agree – it sounds weird! And can be hard to pronounce and spell. I struggled with the pros and cons of using such a unique word as I knew it would be hard for the people around me to relate to. However, once learning and educating myself more about this beautiful Greek philosophical term, it resided with me so much that I couldn’t help but use it – I hope it resides with you as well <3

History and Etymology

Greek sōphrosynē, from sōphrōn being of sound mind, prudent, reasonable (from saos, sōs whole, safe, sound + -phrōn; akin to Greek phrēn mind) + -sȳnē, suffix used to form abstract nouns. Sophrosyne (Greekσωφροσύνη) is an ancient Greek concept of an ideal of excellence of character and soundness of mind, which when combined in one well-balanced individual leads to other qualities, such as temperance, moderation, prudence, purity, decorum and self-control. In other languages there is no equivalent word. (Info pulled from wikipedia however, there are LOTS of great literature around sophrosyne if you’re interested in learning more!)

My goal with my clients is to encourage and develop healthy habits in all aspects of their life – whether it be creating a healthy relationship with food, balancing work/life schedules, cultivating a happier relationship with themselves or simply learning tools to live a more sustainable, manageable lifestyle for themselves and their families.
